Lack Of Money Almost Ruined My Convocation At UNN — Obi Cubana Narrates
Nigerian businessman and CEO of Cubana Club, Obi Iyiegbu, known very well as 'Obi Cubana', went on his verified Facebook page to narrate his ordeal on his way to his convocation, at University of Nigeria, Nsukka, (UNN) in 1999.
Obi Cubana' shared a photo of himself, while addressing how he used a ‘night bus’ to travel from Abuja to Nsukka, for his convocation with some if his friends.
Obi Cubana wrote;
“1999, we were going to University of Nigeria Nsukka for our convocation ceremony from Abuja, in the company of some of my friends and classmates; Nze, Ultimate, Onwa, Ogali, etc!!! We entered a bus from Area 1 Garki Abuja to Dumez, near Suleja so we could enter the cheaper “night bus” instead of boarding from Jabi Park!
“We got tickets for Mercedes Benz 1414 commuter vehicle, attachment! My Uncle, Zubby, bought me a pair of ‘schools’ shoes, having made him proud by making a 2:1 in the political science department! Inside the 1414 Benz bus, there was zero comfort, especially with the ‘attachment’!”
However, while still dishing out his ordeal, He stated that, during the long journey that lasted for hours, they all agreed not sleep or rest their heads on the shoulder of any traveller that paid for a ‘full seat,’ because if you disturb those who paid for full seat, mistakenly or purposely resting your head on their shoulder, you might get hot slap or warning, depending on the person involve.
He wrote further revealing that, during the journey he later misplaced one leg of the shoe his uncle gifted him and that almost ruined his convocation.
In his word;
“We managed to get to Obollo Afor in the morning, where we would now take a bus into Nsukka. Getting to where we contributed money to stay for the entire convocation, I realised I lost one leg of the pair of my adored and priceless ‘school shoes.’
“It almost ruined my convocation!!! But today, here we are!!! Do people still enter “night bus”? Las las, this generation dey enjoy!!!” He wrote.
